In Palo Pinto County there's a holler
a thousand acre stretch of cursed land
Yeah to you it may sound funny, but the locals understand...
The story, it all started with a family
who settled there to see what they can sow
three months later they were gone, where they went nobody knows...
Well they said it was the Devil
Or that Indians were to blame
but while Texas grew around them
Old Dark Valley stayed the same...
Other folk have gone and tried to live there
They all brag and boast that they have nothin' to fear
every single one has died, gone insane or disappeared....
The oaks grow tall and wild down in Dark Valley
With leaves so thick you never see the sky
and if you go there after dark, you can hear their children cry...
They say the forest is alive
and it's hunger can't be tamed
and while Texas grew around it
Old Dark Valley stayed the same....
They say it's some malignant spirit
ancient evil with no name
and while Texas grows around her
Old Dark Valley stays the same....
